Beginning Friday, Oct. 26, UNH's Museum of Art will open its newest exhibitions, "Working Model: Figurative Drawings and Sculptures from the Collection" and "Barbara Swan: Portraits and Still Lifes."

The museum will celebrate the opening of these exhibitions with a reception from 6-8 p.m.

According to the MOA website, the "Working Model: Figurative Drawings and Sculptures from the Collection"exhibition features figurative drawings and sculptures from the museum's permanent collection to "examine the many and varied ways artists have represented the human form from the early 20th century to the present."

Approximately 18 pieces of work have been selected to appear in this exhibition.

The exhibition "Barbara Swan: Portraits and Still Lifes" will feature the works of a well-known Boston artist, whose still lives were widely exhibited and collected beginning in the mid-1960s, according to the MOA website.

This exhibition will provide a historic overview of her career, from her work in the 1940s, her expressive pairings as a new mother and drawings of her friends and fellow artists in the '60s and to the subject that would dominate her later work: objects transformed through water-filled bottles.

These exhibitions will be on display until Dec. 9, and will be closed on Nov. 12 and Nov. 21-25.

The Museum of Art is located in the Paul Creative Arts Building at UNH.

Rufus Wainwright Returns to Music Hall

Rufus Wainwright
Tonight, famous singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright will appear at The Music Hall in Portsmouth to support his seventh album, Out of the Game.

Wainwright, who is known internationally for his original music and his compilations and film soundtracks, has been called "the most whimsical and original young singer-songwriter to come around in years," by The New York Times and "the greatest songwriter on the planet" by Elton John.

Out of the Game, according to Wainwright's website, is the result of a combined melange of recent experiences, including the birth of his daughter, the death of his mother and his engagement to partner Jorn Weisbrodt. The album was made in collaboration with Mark Ronson.

"What I wanted was a warmth and a depth in terms of quality of sound, and a certain clarity that's still say on the ears," he said. "I've done that whole ponderous, pseudo-genius thing, so it was fun to get in there and work really fast and do something that was more about the songs.

Wainwright, who has performed at the Music Hall before, will be opened by British folk rocker Teddy Thompson and his sister, Lucy Wainwright Roche.

The concert will begin tonight, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the event range from $52 to $58 and are available online.
